Friday September 26

The trip ends almost where it began ....at a Casino ...but this one is in Las Vegas - not in Oregon

We are at Sam's Town Casino and RV Park ...off the Vegas strip by a few miles which makes it quieter and less hectic ...We really love it and will be back ...partly to claim some of the money we are leaving hahahahahaha we will come back to visit it :)

So we head home tomorrow and I begin combing through the more than 1000 photos I took ...aren't you glad I didn't post them ALL here hehehehehe ....Memories of a lifetime ...

I don't know if anyone actually saw this blog but if you did ...thank you for following along and I will talk to you very soon

Driving into Vegas for the first time in a RV ...luckily we could avoid driving up the Strip in a 40 ft RV :)

Happy Trails - Until the next time ...Thanks for coming along :)

Wednesday September 25

WOW !!! - another great day ....they have all been great with just one hiccup.  Today we explored Zion National Park - a bucket list item for a very long time and now checked off ...This wasn't on our planned agenda when we started out but the beauty of travelling in the RV is the opportunity to veer off the original plan.  The luxury to stop when you want for as long as you wish afforded us this opportunity to see this beautiful area.  We stayed in Osoyoos an extra day because of the beauty and the lovely camping spot - not having reservations to meet we were able to move along at our pace as we did in Banff when it poured rain one day and we were able to wait and see Lake Louise in the sunshine by slightly modifying as we went ....this isn't everyones cup of tea but it works for Phil and I thankfully!!

Quail Lake - just behind us where we are staying in St. George

This was one of the best moments today when we drove around a bend and there were 3 mountain goats just eating away ....

We move along to LAS VEGAS !!!   in the morning ...Looking forward to a little slot time :)

Happy Trails !!!

Monday September 23

Yesterday the day didn't result in a lot of photos ...hahahhahah unusual for me ....but we did have a nice drive although a bit windy at times ....The one fun thing I saw was a herd of Buffalo

Not something you usually see driving from Burlington to Port Dover :)

Today we drove from Idaho to Utah ...a lovely drive to the Elks Lodge in Provo Utah - surrounded by the Wasatch Mountains - a  great place to come back too so we can explore Salk Lake City and Provo a little more.

This is the Great Salt Lake - not a great photo but it was the closest we came -

Moving on tomorrow

Saturday September 21

We are still in the amazing state of Montana and what a day of driving it was.  What started out fairly plain and flat snaked around mountains and the Missouri River that amazed around every turn.  We then followed a road through 2 mountain ranges which had a whole different kind of beauty.  These photos start with the mountains and end with the valley where we passed a field of Prong Horned Antelope

Movin on again tomorrow -

Friday September 20

Not much to post for today ...What a difference a day makes in the scenery...Left Banff and once out of that area just a few miles it seemed the terrain really changed....Down through Calgary and onwards ...was so different from the several days before ....but here we are in Montana and it really lives up to its name of Big Sky Country ...what a beautiful sunset we had tonight ....Movin on again tomorrow but Montana is a big state so will still be in it tomorrow night ....

Thursday Sept 19

Wow what a day ....the beauty of have seen today is forever imbedded well that and 266 pictures I took of Lake Louise, Peyto Lake and Glaciers all around ...You hear how beautiful Lake Louise is but it has to be seen to be believed and just up the road a wee piece is Peyto Lake which is beauty in its own right ...the Glaciers are amazing ...I have been through Glacier National Park and its beauty but didn't see the glaciers that we saw today ...

This is Peyto Lake - just beautiful

we didn't go all the way to Jasper - another day - another trip but were thrilled with what we did see and we are so very glad that we didn't stop to see it on the way into Banff and instead waited till the sun was shining and we had the time to do it right ...even if it meant back tracking a wee bit what a day - what a trip

We move on from this beautiful area tomorrow but I know there is more adventures to come!!

Wednesday Seeptember 18

Its been a wonderful two days of travel but the internet was scarce to be had in the mountains.  Cell phone service was iffy most of the time too ...but here we are in Canmore Alberta situated in the Rockies between Calgary and Banff.  Today was our first bad weather day and it rained from Revelstoke to Canmore.   Once we found our campground and the clouds departed the view of the snow topped Rockies was wonderful
Some of the most beautiful views came during the drive up through Kelowna, Vernon and Kamloops.
It was wonderful to see Joel and he is doing well in his new job but looking forward to a vacation.

This is Thompson Rivers Unversity student residence where Joel works ...we could see it standing majestically in the background from our campground.

Todays drive was through the clouds and a lot of road work ...but beautiful just the same.

Tomorrow we will do the highway to Lake Louise and the area ...the sun is suppose to shine.

Sunday September 15

We had a spectacular drive from Yakima Washington to Osoyoos British Columbia ...the scenic drive went through miles and miles of apple orchards and mountain areas ...I hang on with one hand and snap photos out the window with the other.

The first part of the trip was roller coaster like

But then we settle down a bit but it was a two lane road all the way to Canada

We got through customs with no problem ...they really are checking for firearms and fortunately we don't have any so made it thru.  It was about the smallest customs I have ever seen with only 3 lanes

Then we found our campgrounds right on Lake Osoyoos and the view is magnificent ...so we decided to stay an extra day

We will move on to Kamloops tomorrow and see Joel !!!!!

Friday Sept 13

We drove from Salem Oregon to Yakima Washington.  A beautiful drive through the Columbia River Gorge

The terrain changed so many times but the most surprising to me, was the part of Washington that looked more like New Mexico than it did Washington or at least what I thought Washington would look like

Tomorrow we head North to Canada and cross at Osoyoos British Columbia.  Can't wait to see Canada West.

We had another day at the fabulous Seven Feathers RV Resort in Oregon.  It is such a great place to spend a few days.  Spent a little time and Money at the casino but also enjoyed time just sitting and chatting at our campsite.

Tomorrow we are on the move again to Salem, Oregon.

September 10, 2013

Firstly, Happy Birthday to Joel.  You are a most amazing young man!

A wonderful day of beauty and nail-biting (Thank God I have artificial nails) ;) .  We drove from Redding California to Canyonville Oregon through the Cascade Mountains....now we only got to 4000 feet and I bet get my RV legs under me cause I had to close my eyes a few times coming down the mountain ...Geesh

As we came around every bend there was beauty ahead of us and I know there is so much more to come.  We are going to relax here for another day and then Thursday will head to Salem Oregon

Hope everyone is well

Monday, September 9, 2013

We are in Redding, California which is in the Northern part of California and it is 106 degrees here...+35 not counting humidity which is unusual for California...It is so dry everywhere that there are large fires everywhere and a major one burning not far from us here ....we move on tomorrow to Canyonville, Oregon where we will stay at a beautiful RV resort attached to the Seven Feathers Casino ...and will stay there until Thursday and try not to lose all of our money and have to go home :)

Happy Trails.

September 7, 2013

Day one of our trip was good but man alive it was so hot ....we made it over the dreaded "grapevine" which is what they name a stretch of Highway 5 through the mountains.  Uphills and steep declines make it a nail-biter for me....Phil's nails are all still intact :)

We stopped in Visalia California at an Elks Lodge because we sorely needed a place to plug in and use their electric for the air conditioning ...it was well over 100 every where we went today

Tomorrow we move on to Phil's sisters (Bev) home where we will meet up with Bev and Jay before beginning the rest of the adventure.

Happy Trails.
